Rear tire carrier rattles on 94 pathfinder

Hi all:

I have a '94 Pathfinder with a noisy rear tire carrier. The car has 120,000 mi, all in town or highway....little if any off-road.

It appears that the pivot pins have worn from vibration and driving on rough roads sounds like the entire back end of the car wants to come off!

Any nifty solutions out there besides replacing the entire carrier?

Open the carrier and pinch a piece of rubber in the hinge as you close it. Garden hose or fuel line would work.
