my stop lights dont work. (normal driving) when i press on the brakes, the rear light does not come on. (when front lights are switched on) the back lights go on, but when i press on the brakes, the stop lights dont work. there should be another brighter shade of red. instead it stays that dim red color. i've changed the bulbs. and checked the light fuse, i've been doing some reading on here, and someone was talking about the stop light sensor? i've looked under the brake pedal, and that rubber circle thing is still intact so i know its not that. um the top third brake light was cut by the previous only, could it be the stop light sensor? i dont know if its a ground or a short, all the wires look fine. but im know electrian tech. also what fuses should i be checking for? and i have like 4 fuses missing. CIG Light 15A, Electronic IG <- what is that for? RC Mirrors, and under light control there is a blank, but on this picture its the daytime lights. zer...5.JPG

do i need to put a fuse in that black spot? and what is the electronic (IG) for? what does it do? is that important? my car is a 1990 240sx fastback. much help is needed and very appreiated.

thanks.

It sounds like the brake light switch is bad. The easiest way to check it out would be to unsecure it from the bracket. Then, take a multimeter and check continuity across it. As long as it changes from open to continuity when you depress/let go of the switch, its working like it should. If not, its bad.

so where would the brake light switch be? under the brake pedal right? and do you know how much would it be to replace it? thanks in advance.

Yes, its on the bracket under the brake pedal. I'm sure it doesn't cost much. Just see if its bad first.
