For the past few days I've been having a squeaking or chiping sound coming from my right rear side on my 5.5 maxima. I've searched and others have described it as birds in the trunk. It's driving me nuts and I need a solution. I have about 103,000 on the car and am about to replace all 4 shocks with KYB GR-2's. Should I replace the strut mounts for both rear sides? And if I should where can I get the strut mounts that come with the bushings and distance tube.

You can find the mounts at just about any parts store but the dust boot and bump stop are only available from the dealer so far as I know. I'd suggest using the KYB mount to go along with the KYB strut. Are you going to be using the same spring or changing to a different one? I only ask because most aftermarket struts aren't valved to be used with lowering springs and you'll blow them out.

I'll be using the stock springs that are already on the car. Yea I've already found the kyb rear shock mounts that look like they come with the bushing plus distance tube (I hope) from I believe partsgeek.com or something like that. I just hope my local stealership has the bump stops in stock.

Ok, the guy at the parts counter has no idea what bump stops are. Can anyone help me with a parts number? Getting desperate here...

Try these guys. Don't know if you can wait a couple days for shipping, but I bought from them recently and it took 3 days to recieve my parts and they were all correct.

Thanks, I found a place called anythingauto.com and ordered the shock mounts and the bump stops. Now however as of this afternoon, whether its driving straight, turning left, or braking I'm getting a rubbing type sound from somewhere in the rear. It is more pronounced on turns and sometimes happens during braking off an highway off ramp. Please someone tell me it's just the suspension. I just had my rear brake pads changed if that makes a difference. I'm taking the car back to the shop that did my rear brakes to check to see if the rear calipers aren't staying compressed while I'm not braking.

UPDATE: Just had all new shocks/struts installed last week and the chirp continues. The mechanic said the sound looks to be coming from the passenger side trailing arm bushing. He put WD-40 to test it and the sound went away for a day or two. I've done all the research related to replacing those bushings and the easiest way it seems would be to buy some used trailing arms, press out the old bushings and put in some new Energy Suspension bushings. Any thoughts on that approach? Oh and the pads rear brake pads don't make as much noise anymore. I think I didn't break them in correctly and will be getting some metallic pads as replacements.
