The car has 101,000 miles on it. The front suspension was replaced by the prior owner. The rear suspension looks original and the shocks are leaking oil. When I look under there, I see a shock with a coil around the top portion of the shock. Are shock and coil the correct terms to describe those items? The car has a dash button to toggle on and off the "Sport" suspension mode. Does this mean the car has electronic suspension that I read requires some special parts? What are the recommended options for replacing the original rear suspension?

It sounds like you have the same setup as the q45T which has the adjustable suspension - Maybe someone can chime in - I think the 1999 to 2001 q45T plus the Anniversary were the only series with the adjustable suspension. Throw a picture up and perhaps someone can identify if you have the original Q suspension in the back

I don't think the Anniversary Edition that I have has the Touring suspension. I don't see any electronics hooked up to the rear suspension. All that I see is a struct with a coil over the top section. Based on my reading it looks like I could order these spring compressors:

and these OEM replacement struts:

Any reason to consider replacing the coil?

If not, then this looks like a DIY job that I could do in my home garage. The rear struts are original and show oil leaking.

Will I likely notice much of a ride and handling difference if I spend the $300 or so on this job?

Look at the top of the Strut inside the engine bay. There should be a sensor on the top of the struts. If there isn't then, it doesnt have the adjustable struts. Or the previous owner has swapped them for non-adjustable cartridges.
The spring rate on these cars is insane, so be careful.

A seach will yeild more info for you as this topic is asked alot.
Cheers
