Hi All,

New to forum, so please keep flaming to a minimum. Just got a 2007 Altima, and have since installed Boston Pro components in front doors, Boston SC coaxials in rear door (removed factory 6x9s from rear deck), and Boston G3 12" subs in trunk. An extra special thanks to everyone on this forum for helping me tear down a new car (well, new for me) without destroying it. A big extra special thanks to AppleBonker (who seems to answer everyone's questions), D#1Status (nice custom items btw), and everyone else (someone also gave me the idea of ordering the factory bezel from nissanparts2u.com, big thanks!). An album of pics (from building box to complete install, more to be added) can be found here:

Now my question is this: Anyone have measurements to a speaker cover for the trunk? I also need one for the rear (to cover up those hideous wires). Zenclosure seems to have the closest thing to what I'm looking for (ie, their enclosure front wraps around the wheel wells). Any secrets/tricks on how to construct one that wraps nicely around the wheel wells will be much appreciated. Also, if anyone has one for behind the rear seats that fits nicely, please take pics and give me ideas. Thanks again in advance.

*As a side note, if anyone is curious as to how I filled in the sides of my single din HU, I'll let you know.

Need better pics of the subs, I cant really tell what you have going on here.

That Zenclosure box is just a baffle, see my thread here...

Thanks, I've uploaded some more pics (sorry they're not much better, but at least you can get the idea). I'm looking for suggestions/measurements for a rear cover (the equivalent of the front of your box- the "wings"). I drew some lines to show you below. I plan on cutting out holes so that the face of the speakers are flush with the face of my cover. I had something similar in my last vehicle, pic below. Suggestions on material? I used mdf last time, but found that it was kind of heavy for something that is just being used as a carpeted cover. Anyone ever get away with plywood on this? That thin pressboard? I'll also be building one for the back (I have room with my enclosure to mount amps to box, and I'll do something similar with the amp cover, ie the amps will be recessed into the carpeted cover). Thanks again in advance.

I got you bro, I actually made a whole diagram of the Zenclosure box for another forum member. Give me a couple minutes to find it.

I would definitely use MDF. I dont think ply will hold up very well and thin press board (bascially MDF) is not going to hold screws as well as thick MDF will.

Nice work on the previous install.

Thanks again DJBeasy, this is ideal. And thanks for complement on last install. My 3000GT was broken into, I wish I still had pics. But yeah, I'm loving my altima a whole lot more actually. This should be perfect for my cover, and I'll go with MDF if you think it'll be a better material (no use doing it twice). I'll upload pics to this forum once I'm done (probably a few weeks, got boards Saturday and then a week much needed vacation). Thanks again dude.

With the amount of pressure you're adding I wouldn't go below roughly 3/4" MDF. MDF definitely makes for big, heavy boxes. This is why most people switch to fiberglass if they need to conserve weight/space. I would highly recommend not using thin pressboard or plywood. If you do, be prepared to build another enclosure (and possibly damage your woofer(s)).

Edit: posting slow ftl

Thanks AppleBonker. Big kudos to you on your FAQ too. I've actually already constructed the box (of 3/4" MDF, is there anything else!!??), and just need to build a cover. So, the cover won't actually be a part of the box, it will just fit over the speakers (and their box) and hide wires, etc.

Whoa hold up...you have sedan (just noticed looking through your pics and sig)? That diagram is for the coupe, I assumed thats what you needed because of the pic you posted from Zenclosure's website. Im sure the measurements wont be accurate...

Good catch. The trunks are VERY different. Verify the measurements in your car before you start cutting. The coupe trunk is tiny in comparison. You, on the other hand, have a ton of space to work with.

Design should be similar for the box, just use the diagram and my pics from the other thread to get an idea of what you need to do.

Looking forward to pics. :mike

Whew, glad I read the rest of this (and am out of state for clinical rotations atm) and didn't just start cutting. When I get back in a few weeks I'll take this design with a fresh set of measurements. And of course, there will be pictures :D. Will be a few weeks though (which is probably better since it's been ballblistering hot outside lately anyway).
