So i take off my nicer wheels on the s13 to put the s***ty dift spares it came with on the back so i can paint another coat on my rear QP. While taking the lug nuts off, i notice how f***ED the studs are... ruining four of my nice expensive tuner lug nuts... sweet

so i hammer those b****es out with the intent to replace them with the circuit sports extended studs i saved from my s14. Ive done wheel studs on my maxima and they were cake. Put the stud in, screw in an open end lug nut, tighten it enough against the rotor to pull the stud through nice and tight, and done!

so i try this on the s13... not happening. The studs just keep spinning. Theres not enough room to hammer the studs in from the back to start them, and continue the rest with the nut, so i have to do it holding the back of the stud with a vice grip so it wont spin. Even this way, i get the lug nut in as tight as i can with the vice grip and breaker bar with 21mm deep socket, with the intent to unscrew the lug nut (still holding the back of the stud with the vice grip), once its out, put the caliper back on, pull the e-brake so it doesnt spin, and tighten it all the way once thats done

so as i go to unscrew the lug nut.. what do you know.. the stud spins!

I tried this multiple times, multiple different ways for a solid 3 hours and ive come to the conclusion that the easyest way would just be to take the hubs themself off and hammer the studs in from the back

That would be great, except i cant do that because i have no transmission in the car right now, so the driveshaft will just spin around freely...

So... im running out of options here. Anybody have any advice?

I did the fronts on my car with Nismo Extended studs and they were literally cake. i was told the rears were a different story... Lucky for me, im only running a 7mm spacer int he rear and i have a full 7Turns on the lug nut.. so i probably wont be replacing the rear studs with longer studs anytime soon.

The last time i tried the rears, i ended up stripping the lug-nut, and giving my self a bigger problem.

yeah i had the same problem pretty much but i was trying to get the hubs off to replace susp parts but i hadnt hooked up my hydro ebrake yet. U have to use an airgun to crack the bolts free otherwise your gunna be wasting effort. And i think u should take the hubs off completely and get the studs/ or new studs shop pressed in. hope this helps

did you try grabing the back of the stud with the vice grip letting it jam up somewhere and then try taking the nut off.

This should take you to page 2 of my build thread.

zer...age=2

half way down you will se me replaceing my rear wheel studs. I dont know what kind of tools you have, but I pounded the old ones out the back with a hammer. Then the new ones slide in threw the back as far as they can. Then I build up a wall with washers. Then with a lugnut and my impact gun, I forced them in. Once they get so far in there are splines on them so they shouldnt turn. I had no problems. If you dont have an impact gun, I would still think this would work, just use washer, lugnut, wrench, and a 3ft pipe. Hope this helps.

What he said ^Use washers to put a bigger gap between the rotor and the lug nut so you can tighten it down more. After the threads on the stud the grippy part should catch on the rotor keeping it from spinning. Maybe your studs aren't the right size?

You guys missed the obvious answer.

His hubs are shagged. The holes for the studs are "wallered out" from the studs moving in the fitting. The splines in the hole are worn.

How do I know they were moving? Because he says so in the 2nd sentence of the first post.

Replace the rear hubs and put in your new longer studs.

I took that as meaning the actual threaded part was boogered up. This is what I thought the problem might be:

...are you re-using studs that were already pressed into hubs? No bueno.

Both are problematic.

The splines have already been smooshed down, and the grooves in the hub are worn down.

New hubs, new studs, and don't do it again.

Which S14 studs are you using? S14 fronts use a different knurl than s13's. Something like 14.3mm knurl as apposed to 13mm on the s13. If you have s14 rears than you are ok.

just let the studs do their thing and finish up and they will surely end there hard times and pull out of your rear...

lol

on a serious note, that is a problem. it looks like you have a few options... all suckish. replace the whole thing (rotors, etc.) or get a bigger stud... which wont work kuz then your lug nuts wont fit.
