Ok decided on the CDT-61 6.5" component system for my front doors, making the adaptor plates as soon as I can order the speakers. Now my question is, with the limited space for working around the rear speakers, what coaxials would you guys recommend for the rear? For info, I'll be running em off the headunit for now, hopefully amping all 4 this summer, and I've currently got an Adire Audio Shiva 12" sub in a 3 cube box powered by a JBL 600.1 bridged to I think its 350W, any suggestions?

Are you sure? I hear the coupes have bigger rear speakers than fastbacks.

Fastbacks fit 4x6s in the rear, not 7s.

Thats what I thought...anyone have any recommendations for speakers for the rear, whether they fit stock or require adaptation, I don't really care, as long as you can explain what needs to be done to them ;)

i'll let you know once i mount some components back there... either 5 1/4 or 6 1/2. it'll be a custom job for sure but i'll let you know how it goes. i might even post pics. it may be a little while, like a week or more before i get started but we'll see. i just finished finals and all so now i get some time to do things i want to do. i don't know what kind of custom work it's gonna require... whether i have to fiberglass anything or not, but chances are that i will. i may just build something out of wood, but who knows. If i only put 5 1/4 back there it won't be that big of a job.

Awesome, I'm doing the fronts in 6.5 inch components in a week or two hopefully, not sure when the rears/the 4 channel will be done...seriously let me know how that goes, but I'll probably use coaxials instead of components for the rear, from what I've heard it'll sound better.

No worries =) I'm ripping apart the rears on Friday to try and figure out what I can fit back there....I'd love to fab some adaptors and get 6x9s in..

yeah nj there's not much room back there. =/ heck, its kind of a biatch to get 4x6s in. i wouldnt worry too much about getting big speakers back there... you have thump in your trunk, and any bass from a midrange speaker in the rear would be pointless. you just want good highs and mids. i have infinity kappa 465.2cfps. they sound pretty awesome and i got the pair for... uh... i dont remember, $70 or $90 or something.

Yeah I've actually been considering those exact same speakers for a while now, Yorb, and I think I'm going to get them...I figure with 6.5" CDT components in the doors, and a nice sub in the trunk, amping the 4x6s and the 6.5"s should sound gorgeous, and require no death defying stunts to fit new speakers in the rear, or an incredible amount of loot.

See my reply to another post on this topic the other day... I just did this in my '93 hatchback and it was very simple. You just need to take out the plastic factory speaker mounts and then you can cram a 5.5" set in the metal shelves with only four holes drilled. The hardest part was getting the shelves out to work on them, but after understanding how to do it it was very simple. The 5.5" in the rear sound great with the 6.5" fronts... Infinity Reference all around (Circuit City has them buy one pair get one 50% off right now).

With some encouragement you can get 6.5"s in a hatchback, i did on my red 240sx. This car was planned to never have a sub/amp or anything, just a deck and 4 speakers so we plus-sized it a bit.

My grey 240sx uses 4" MB Quarts in a plate front and back and 10s to do the low end, sounds really good, dont sweat the size if you're running a sub or two.
