My rear speakers don't work, i know it's not the speakers though because i got brand new ones, i think it might be the wiring or something, also i took of the driver side carpeting in the hatch below the speaker, and there's a silver cylinder kinda thing (it's only on the driver's side) does anyone know what this is? or if it is the problem? cuz when i hit it with my hand sometimes the speakers work for a while then. BTW: my car is a 91 fastback..

it might be a resistor to filter out high or low tones... i would check the color of the wires in the back and make sure it matches the color inside the dash where you hook it to the stereo... also a pic of the device on the cylinder would be good.

well when i got the car it had a Pioneer cd player (DEH-P3100) and all the speakers were pioneer, and since the rear ones didn't work i got brand new ones, also pionner.

my custom rear speakers were really quiet before i got a 200W deck too .. maybe your deck doesnt run enough power for the speakers to work very well

Is that cylinder thing you're talking about the factory amp?? I had the same problem w/ mine when I replaced the stock head unit w/ an aftermarket one. The amp isn't designed to work w/ anything but the stock radio so when I hooked up the new one, none of the speakers worked. I had to bypass all the amps (theres one in each of the doors too). Just cut the wires going to the amp and do trial and error to find which ones got the signal, or just run new ones from the head unit, which is what I did, and it fixed the problem completely. I think only the SE had the amps, so if you don't have them I don't know what it could be, but running new wires would be your best bet.
