rear speakers and defogger don't work

My rear speakers and defogger don't work. The wiring for my audio system was really messed up when i got the car, the person who had it before me installed an amp and sub himself and did a horrible job. I've got most everything hooked back up correctly but i don't know alot about car audio.

What could be causing the speakers to not work?

Okay, here's some more info that will hopefully help you help me.I did some testing today using both my 240's one has the problem, the other is fine, and here is what it up.

It's not the cd player unit itself.It's not the speakers.

It has something to do with the connection between the cd player and the rear speakers. I borrowed one of those ohmmeters, or whatever they're called (sorry, don't know alot about electical stuff). I did some testing and found a problem.

There is no connection between the rear speaker connector for the cd player, and the rear speaker connector for the speaker. The thing is there isn't anywehe that i can see where the connection is broken. On the left rear the wires had been cut and twisted back together. I checked them out and put one of those crimping connectors on it.

Still no connection between both the positive and negative connectors for both speakers.

Is there a fuse somewhere that i can check? Please help!

Here's a simple test:

Hook up the positive terminal of a 9volt battery to one end of one of the wires going to the rear speaker(s). Then connect a wire to the negative terminal to that same battery at touch a bare metal spot on the car. If there is a spark then the wire is cut somewhere along the line and NEEDS to be replaced. If no spark then...

Run new speaker wire from the HU to the rear speakers.

I think i am going to have to connect new speaker wire.

Can i use regular speaker wire like for home audio or do i need something special?

You can use home speaker wire.

I recommend the 14awg stuff from walmart. It's ~$10 for 50 ft of it.

Cool. Did you happen to take pictures while you ran the wire?

I'm sure a few 240 owner's would like to know exactly where to run th ewire for a clean install
