I just installed my Alpine SPS-170A's in the rear, and I am using the stock wiring of the 98 240sx LE with premium sound. The question is... which is positive and which is negative?? I mean i was gunna just go with color coding, but all 4 wires are a different color. Does anyone know which is which?? I took an educated guess and here is what I came up with and is how I wired it.While in the car, facing the rear:Left Speaker Wires: Pink +Blue -Right Speaker Wires:Green +Red -

Does anyone know if this it correct??

The front is not a problem since im rewireing them.

For now, what you have told me suits me as I am off the factory amp. I will NOT be using the factory amp for long. Do you know where the amp is, and what the new colors that I will need to use are?? I will need to extend these wires to reach the rear speakers without the amp.

I looked under the rear deck in between the rear speakers, but I see no factory amp. ANy help is great. Thank you.

umm maybe you dont have the "premium" system... i thought all premiums had a rear deck amp... i could be wrong though. if you want to check i guess you could pull the head unit out and look at the back... if you can find the same color wires there as are hooked to your front and rear speakers, then i think you may not have an amp... externally anyway. i have never owned a 240 that didn't have a premium system, but it's gotta be easier to deal with than the premium system is. also mine is a 96 se, if that makes a difference. i mean as far as i know the only thing that really changed was the headlights between 95/96-97/98... all of the interior was pretty much all the same and i can't imagine them changing the sound system. did you test out the setup i gave you above? does it work? any problems? if there are any just ask and let me know what problems you had, and if not wel then just post up later asking me about installing the new head unit if you need help.unless you are running HIGH end speakers it's really not gonna make a big difference if you decide to run new wires to the speakers or if you just cross some of the ones off the amp and plug them into your new head unit. listen when you are ready just post up again and ask, under this same thread i guess, it wont matter... like the audio forum doesn't get a whole lot of hits, so i usually browse over all new things when i post something up. just ask again later and i'll tell you what wires to cross with what and you can hook it all up so it's not soo mcuh of a pain. well actually come to think of it... it may be just as much of a pain to solder all of those wires as it would be to put new lower gauge wire in, but i mean why waste what you already have. trust me it wont make that big of a difference unless y ou are speding tons of money on equipment, and it doesn't look like you are.

so what you are saying is that there is nothing underneath the rear deck? just the bottoms of your speakers? the amp doesn't really look like anything special. it should be i think silverish and have a bunch of wires running in and out of it... and there is a tiny light in the middle, like a trunk light, that is completely worthless... i think the light should be in front of the amps if you are looking in from the rear of the car (outside of the trunk). if you fold the seat down in back and look it should be easier to see everything.

Yup... I looked. NADA. I think this is the premium sound since this is an LE and it has the tweeters in the A-Pillar and the CD/Cassette deck. Im gunna rewire the fronts because I will be using coaxials instead of the tweets in the A-pillars, and the fronts are cake to rewire. I DO NOT want to rewire the rears, so I really need to find that amp if I can (if any) Could you tell me the speaker wire colors that I will need to use for the rears when I bypass the amp?? Yes, what you told be before did help. Thank you.

well look first off, check the cd player itself. if the wires coming out of the cd player are the same colors as the ones that connect to your speakers then you have no amp. if they are different then you have an amp. here's the wiring setup:go to this link, it tells you how to do it... it's pretty much exactly what i was going to tell you... but it is assuming you have a rear deck amp that you dont... but you can figure it out...

http://www.240sx.org/faq/artic...s.htm

so really what you want to look for on the back of the factory cd player is this...Blue/white, Brown, Brown/white, Blue/yellow, green, red, blue, pink... all of the same wires that connect directly to your speakers (same shade and everything)... if those wires are not there and these wires are - Purple, Pink (different shade than the other pink i think), Green(again different shade than one connecting to speaker), Blue, White, Black, and another Pink... and a bunch of others- then you have an amp and have to locate it. i really doubt that you have one, but if you do and can't locate it you gotta get someone else to help cause i have no idea where it could be... hope this helped... post up another question if you have more.

Because I bought an aftermarket deck, but I need to know what or if I need to rewire. I need to know if I can use the already routed factory wire, or if I need to bypass the amp or not. I cannot find the amp in this car, so Im assuming it doesnt have one since it is supposed to be under the rear deck, and it isnt.

Just weighing all my options and such is all, and getting my information. together.

I have the amps under my rear deck and my aftermarket unit works with them fine. I'd really only rewire if you had an ultra high class headunit or powering the speakers with a new amp.

Figured it out. It was just a regular sound system, no amps. Hooked up my alpine deck and I was ready to roll. Thank you for all of your help though.
