rear shock/strut problem

I recently just got koni shocks and tein springs(used) the fronts were ready to install, BUT the rear shocks aren't tightened?(I don't know correct term) So the springs can move freely. My question is can I just tighten the two bolts on the top of the shock (center) to the point where the springs do not move freely, install, lower the car CAREFULLY, and tighten again?Its for a 1995 240sx
