rear shock compatibility

I know that the rear suspension components from the 3rd gen altimas and the 4th gens are almost all identical. One question though are the OEM rear shocks interchangeable? If i needed a shock for my 4th gen would i be able to buy a 3rd gen shock and install it? If anyone has experience on this topic it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
