When I bought my 240 a couple of months ago, the interior reeked and was filthy. So I pulled the entire interior except the dash, and cleaned the sutff for all it was worth. now it looks good except for one problem. I pulled the rear seat belts, and the driver's side one retracted all the way and is now locked up. I know that you are supposed to be able by law to takeit to a dealership and have the belts fixed for free, but does this include bonehead mistakes? My guess is no, so I need a diagram or explination or something of how to fix this. Thanks.

They should be able to replace it for free, even if it's a "bonehead" mistake. Not getting it fixed endagers the life of the passengers, if you tell them you're broke they probably won't charge you.

hmmm. i did this also. both of mine retracetd all the way and pretty much locked. i figured i would have to get new ones or something but before i went out to go pay money for new ones i tried to bolt them back in. somehow(I REALLY HAVE NO CLUE HOW) after i bolted the top part of it to the car, they unlocked. i have no clue how this worked, but it did. i suggest you try it and see what happens.

My passenger side front seat belt latch doesn't hold very well...the seatbelt pops out a lot when I have people ride with me. It earns me a lot of complaints. :)

I think I'm going to take it to the dealership this week to see if they'll fix. I too don't wish to pay for it, and from what I've also heard, seatbelts must be fixed free of charge because they're a safety device...

I fixed it. I did as yeswepromise said, and unbolted the belt at the borrom, and then bolted it at the top. That was what it took. Now it retracts, and I was able to re-bolt the bottom. Now I want to know if anybody knows why. I tried to press it together outside the car, but couldn't do it. So, how do the belts work?
