Here's my issue, I have replaced my rear output shaft seal a few times thinking the problem of transfer case oil leaking would be solved. The very unique thing with this problem is that if I have passengers in the rear seat or have a heavy load in or on the vehicle the transfer case oil will appear on the entire rear of the vehicle. During daily driving with no load everything is fine. I remember seeing a thread way back when about a permanent fix which involves something to do with the transfer case itself. The vehicle in question is a 2004 LE Pathfinder. I would appreciate help on this matter as I am about to embark on a 3-4 hour towing excursion and I don't want to replace the transfer case again.

I fixed my leak by replacing the original rear driveshaft with a used one from the wrecker, hasn't leaked a drop since. I had replaced the rear seal 3 times and every new seal leaked, even tried different brands.

I was wondering that, could a possible nick or ding on the polished portion of the driveshaft cause the leak when the vehicle has a load in/on it?

I didn't notice any nicks or cuts or even grooves in my old slip yoke. Mine was leaking constantly, even without a load.

I don't have direct experience with nissan 4wd, but on other makes, I have seen mechanics struggle with leaks that were thought to be at the seal, but eventually turned out to be the driveshaft yoke/stub shaft. The lube would work its way down the splines and exit through cracks in the u-joint area. These were modest volume leaks, and would take a couple days of driving to become apparent
