Installed a new rear seal on my SR today. When I tapped it in, I first used a block and tapped the seal flush with the housing.

But then I thought it might need to go in further, so I used the old seal upside down to tap it in and I made sure the inside of the seal bottomed out. So the seal now sits recessed below the edge of the housing.

Is this correct ? I figured this is the correct way to do it.

I accidentally did the same thing on mine, tapped it in a little to far. I'm pretty sure it should sit flush since thats how my old one was before I took it out. I highly doubt that it will leak though just because it was pushed in more. I was a bit worried at first to.

you're fine. the seal you bought is a revised version of the original seal. it will sit in further than the stock one.

Hey I am needing to order a new front and rear oil seal to rebuild my SR... should I get this from a 91 SE-R Sr20De RWD?

check the parts guide. I had the part number listed there as well.
