Ok, so the vert's going to paint within the month or so (depending when my tax return gets in), so I'm starting to get the little things gathered now so it's all here when the time comes to take the vert to the shop

The one thing I'm having trouble locating is the rubber insulator that goes on the rear exterior molding right below the convertible top.

This is the best picture of it I can find on my comp just so everyone knows which molding I'm talking about.

Nissan doesn't carry it anymore, and ASC is always no help when it comes to ordering parts. I've looked at Soffseal, but I'm having difficulty figuring out which piece in their catalogue would suit my purposes best.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Which one are you talking about?#1 or #2?

#2 is thin molding that goes under that black plastic trim(#1).

#2, the rubber part

It's a long strip of rubber that you cut to fit and it fills in that nasty gap between the molding and the quarter panel. It should also eliminate any vibrational noise that might happen as well as protect the paint right there

I don't have that piece on my car and my car doesn't have a gap there. It looks good without it. I've seen some cars have it and I was wondering about that whenever I see it. I think it's something ASC added if they saw a gap there. That part is not in here.

You might want to check out Home Depot and see if you can find something that'll work. You can even cut floor/window molding to thin strip and use it.

This might be the similar one. You know convertible boot cover? Some of them have plastic liner in the back and some of them don't from the factory. That liner breaks into pieces all the time if there's one on it.

I've been looking for this as well as mine is in poor shape.

If you find it, be sure to post it up, as I'll do the same.

I see it in the left picture. -K5136 (RH) & -K5137 (LH)

I refrain from going to home depot and getting this because automotive grade rubber holds up to the riggors of being part of an automobile better than a home solution would be. Auto grade has to withstand weather (sun rain etc) and repeated washings and wax. Home quality tends to not hold up very well to that kind of abuse. I'll probably call up SoffSeal and see what they can do. They are the #1 source for aftermarket pieces like that. I just wish their catalogue didn't suck balls to navigate.

I thought it was just a thin rubber strip that goes underneath the trim to fill the gap. I guess I was wrong. It looks like that piece goes first then trim piece goes on top of it. I don't know what happened to mine. It's just clean there. I don't see any rubber insulator.

It's actually glued to the bottom of the trim piece then the trim gets screwed in place. Most times, the adhesive wears out and the insulator starts to fall out or gets pulled out. The idiots who owned my car originally tried using what looks like emblem adhesive to put it back, but they didn't pull the trim piece to do it, so they got adhesive all over the trim. Oh well, bead blasting and powdercoating ftmfw

Do a search for VW Bug fender welting. It might work with a little cutting. It's only $5 for a roll of it a JC Whitney.

That could work and it's cheap. I'll have to give it a shot.

And just for those who might be doing a search in the near future, here's the link to JC Whitney's product page.
