Hi. I'm new to this forum and I have a question. Is there a good reason why the user's manual says to always have the middle seatbelt pulled down and locked in whenever the rear seats aren't folded down? I almost never have 5 people in my '05 Murano so it'd be nice if I could just keep it rolled up and tucked away in the ceiling all the time.

I'm like you, I almost never have more than four people in the car at one time. i always keep the seat belt tucked into the little holder in the ceiling. I don't know why the manual says to do that. i don't like the distraction of the belt in my view.

First off, welcome to NICOclub! I hope you find the Murano Forum enjoyable and informative!

I am with both of you guys on this one. I always have the belt neatly tucked up in the ceiling of the vehicle. I don't know why anyone would want to leave it down unless you use it on a regular basis. I believe I have used it once.

So then I take it there's no benefit to leaving it hanging down and no harm in storing it away, so far as anyone is aware?

It also seems like it would be a hassle anytime you'd want to fold down the seats to have to first get that seatbelt out of the way.

The reason is,,,,, the manual is written for what I call "the least common denominator". I know you've heard that before and I mean no offense to anyone...

Anyway, for most, if it's tucked up in it's neat little holder many will just not use it or "forget" to use it.... If in the attached configuration most all will just jump in and belt up.. Just another case of the manufacturer performing a little CYA.

As you all have mentioned however, near never do we have 3 lined up and traveling in the back seat thus having it stowed makes much more sense. This configuration obviously takes just a second or two to adjust if safety is desired for the center position....

Cheers

Well, that pretty much is what I figured. I thank you all very much for your replies.
