So yeah, im gonna pull the transmission and go get me a new rear main if its pouring and please someone post on the correct way to get the old one out and the new one in.
you didn't scratch either of the metal surfaces, did you? i generally tap a thin blade screwdriver in along the outside, at an angle that points toward the center of the seal and away from the edge so i don't scratch the wall, and then pry out gently. Then when installing the new seal, apply oil around the inner and outer sides of the seal, put the inside of the seal on the top, making sure the lip hasn't folded back, and then twist it on (again, paying attention to that lip) and then tap in w/ an extension evenly until its flush. If that lip folded over, the oil will go by it . If there's a good size scratch at the base, oil might travel thru the scratch past the seal.
and also, its common for the oil pan to leak right there under the rear main, which is why i applied the RTV over the crack.
