So guess my rear main seal is leaking and I have to get it squared away before dyno day which is approaching fast.

Is it a ***** to remove the transmission with the motor in, or would I be better off removing transmission and engine as one?

Just remove the transmission and leave the engine. It's not that hard and if you know what you're doing, you should be done in less than 3 hours for everything.

thanks Dee.

would knowing what I was doing consist of loosening the motor mounts, putting a jack under the oil pan and tweaking it a bit?

I believe I remember reading something to that effect on this board.

you left out block of wood between the oil pan and jack.

bit of advice, when you are putting the trans back in, turn it so the starter area is facing up, get the input shaft semi engaged, the twist the trans to the right position and engaged the rest of the way.

if you try putting the trans on exactly how it goes on the engine, the starter bump out in the bellhousing is gonna rub the trans tunnel.

also, the driveshaft is easier to deal with if you split it in half, and just let the rear hang off the diff. ubolt the rear half first, then undo the carrier, the pull it out of the trans.but i think you have a 1 piece?

pull the shifter out of the trans first.

um, im sure you can get it from here.

actually you want to jack under the front and tilt the engine towards the firewall. the weight of the accessories is going to make the engine tilt forward. you may want to disconnect your ic piping to give yourself some freedom. just be careful you dont pinch anything back there.
