I think mine is goin bad. Engine and transmission: S13 SR. I lifted it up and there was a small droplet hangin on the lip. Im sure it leaks a lil more during driving. Is the propeller shaft supposed to be exposed about an inch? This might be the reason b/c mine is. Also, how hard is it to replace the seal? Thanks in advance.

rear main seal = remove transmission to replace.

you'd notice it because if it was leaking badly enough it would probably spray some oil onto the clutch disc.

the rear trans seal is easy to replace. remove the driveshaft, pull the old seal out, tap the new one in, reinstall driveshaft.

usually, there's a dust shield that goes around the end of the trans, but in most cases, it gets removed.

There are misconceptions in this thread right now. Rear main seal is at the back of the motor not the transmission. Also if the poster did indeed mean the rear transmission seal, then that isn't hard at all and is common to replace.

yes. usually there's a dust shield there, so you don't see that it sticks out an inch. it's fine without the shield

yep. the KA seal will work just fine.

I suggest getting a seal puller. It's a T shaped device you can find at an auto parts store. The top part of the "T" will have a slight hook at each end, which allows you to work it in behind the seal and then pry it out.

A taped screwdriver works, but not as well.
