Hey everyone, I'm new to this site, and I spent a long while searching before making any posts, has a lot of answers can be found, but I'm not satisifed with some things on HICAS. I just bought my 240 last sunday, (I got my members only jacket) :P Before I continue, this is a great community and thank you for having me. Now, I have a '91 m/t SE fastback 158,xxx and I think I have hicas, but I'm not sure. When I take a turn, which isn't too terribly hard, I've had a civic and have taken harder turns than this, or in the focus, its like the car has a mind of its own and flays me back then i oversteer it because this is something entirely new to me, and i end up looking like im fish tailing, is this HICAS? super HICAS? I don't believe I have ABS, with work and everything I just barely got to taking apart things today. It doesn't make sense to have hicas w/o abs, or maybe it does, I'm new to nissan. If it does have ABS, it must have some suuuuuper tiny wheel speed sensors. This disturbs me a little because after going out of a turn, or if I do a simple U-Turn, the rear right begins grabbing or locking up. Then it makes this dragging noise, and my steering wheel instead of pointing to the right (because it needs an alignment) is front and center, and the whining continues, at this point I usually brace myself, because about 8 seconds later it *POPS*, like something jars loose, and it throws my steering about 35 degrees to the right and I have to quickly grab it and keep me in line, lol.My brake system has a flaw somewhere in it, vacuum booster, master brake cylinder or slave. When I push the brakes down hard, the vehicle keeps moving as if It had ABS, but then the right rear locks up or something, and it pushes my steering wheel funny, and does that turn thing on its own again. I rebuilt the right-rear brake caliper today, was not seized, everything functioning properly, and bled the system for a 2nd time. I'll later check the booster or mass brake cylinder ect.. But based on this guys...what do you think it could be? Its puzzling me! Any help you could give me would help a great deal! THANKS!

*****EDiT!****** After this I looked around a little more and eventually found a thread talking about looking at the gauge cluster, duh! So I looked, didn't see anything that said ABS or HICAS so no LSD i guess, I did see an umarked light though, maybe they did it for s&g's? So now I'm really confused what the hell is going on with my car. thanks again!

do you think the problem you're experiencing just might be that you're using a rear-drive car now?

with a civic or a focus, there's no way in hell you can swing the back end out unless you rip the e-brake.

with rear-drive, and old tires, you don't have to take a turn hard. as soon as you get back on the throttle the rear will break traction and throw the back end out.

i'm not sure if that's really what the problem is, but it could be. and without an LSD you probably won't have very good control of it once it gets sideways.

EDIT:

nevermind, i just re-read it and realized that's not the problem you're having.sorry.

i have no idea. my 240 is riding on 223000 mile suspension and brakes, and i don't have any problems even close to that.

No worries, I think I figured out what the problem is, for one, the rear brake pads are a little too small, they move around. And secondly, tonight after work I put my car up on the rack and noticed that my front right control arm is a little dented like someone checked a curb and has no bushing, so its letting the tire flay back and fourth. I tightened it up as much as you can without it having a bushing, and it seemed to quit acting up as much it was before. For whatever reason it felt as if it was coming from the rear, that part of it could be that I'm not used to rwd vehicles so maybe I was thinking it was coming from the rear right. The only rwd I had was an '86 firebird that I restored and sold. The front right sway bar arm link? also is missing a bushing, so I think I'm just going to buy another arm for like $50 and get some new bushings for both sides. Happen to know of any aftermarket performance control arms for our cars? The only one's I've found are like $500 which I'm not paying. Thanks for your help
