Two years ago I bought my 1993 Infiniti Q45 from a local owner. The day I bought it I had to switch over licence plates and on that day one of the two bolts holding it snapped, The shaft got stuck inside the nutsert like holder that it goes into. Two years later (this week) I decide to fix this problem since the licence plate was held by one bolt. I remove the last of two bolts holding the licence plate only to have the same thing happen (The bolt broke in two). So I go into my organized pile of bolts, nuts, washers and screws and find a suitable match. I drill out the bolts and head to the dealer to get this nutsert like holder and install it on my car. I get there only to find that those are not available separately unless you buy the entire bumper. I go to the guy in a kidding manner "I guess Infiniti never thought these cars would last 20+ years". He says "Infiniti never though people like you would use steel bolts to hold the licence plate". I say "blame the previous owner". I ask him what they use and he said they use plastic bolts to hold the licence plate in place on all there vehicles.

The nutsert like thing that the bolt goes into to hold the licence plate is made of brass, has nerals (hope thats the right spelling) and is threaded of course for the bolt to go through it. I would recommend everyone use plastic or stainless steel bolts. And soak the bolt in a 50/50 mix of Dexron ATF and Acetone before thinking about removing.

If anyone is interest I will get some pictures.

And what would you know it today I go to adjust this annoying Throttle Position Sensor because I never did get it at exactly .44 volts last time, And the top bolt that holds it in place breaks. So thats another thing for tomorrow. Problem here was I don't know my own strength and I over tightened it. Can't get a torque wrench in that space either. :)
