We have a 2004 PF purchased in CO in the month of July, so the truck is going on 9 yo.. The PF has been in OH for the last 5 years and is primarily parked outside facing east, so the passenger side sees sun just about all day long, when it's out.
I first noticed this issue, where the rear door inner seal (on the body of the truck) started to pull itself away from its mounting edge on the p-side about a year ago. As you try to push the seal back on the mounting edge, another part of the seal about 6" on either side would come off the edge about half way. To help hold the seal in place, I got some black RTV adhesive and the issue on the p-side has been good ever since.
Well, a few week ago, I noticed the same thing happening on the rear d-side door jam. And now I'm frustrated. I know rubber shrinks over time and the cold doesn't help either, but I've never had a car do this on me. Even my current 9 yo VW GTI isn't having the rubber issues the PF is having and it sits outside right next to the PF.
So, I guess I am going to have to use more RTV on the d-side seal to keep it in place. Of course, the inner door seals aren't the only piece of rubber shrinking on the truck. The infamous outer window surrounds are shrinking to the point of creating a gap at the joint along the bottom of the front windows. Even the rubber seal at the back of the sun roof drain tray is pulling up at the outside edges causing the sunroof to squeal and squeak when ventilated. The really sad think is, these seals aren't cheap to replace.
I know the outer rubber trim pieces "fail" quickly, but the inner ones not exposed to direct sunlight? Anyone else have this shrinking issue with the inner rear door jam seal(s)?
