I had a rear wheel bearing that was going bad so I got a hub off an 89 coupe in the junkyard that had half the miles my car has so it was good. The only problem was when I installed it and test drove the car I can hear this wobbling sound that gets faster as i accelerate. I know it's not the bearing because It didn't do this before I took my old hub out. Are the hubs pressed in some special way? Is there anyway i can fix this myself without taking it to a dealer?

what did you replace? just the wheel bearing or the whole hub?

Did you torque everything back down to spec? i.e. the wheel hub nuts & and the 4 bolts behind the hub? how about the lug nuts?

yeah everything torqued to spec except for halfshaft nuts but i kind of felt those. Lugnuts werent torqued but i had them as close as can be. Hub and caliper bolts also torqued to spec. Could this be an out of balance halfshaft? it boggles my mind its like a rotating out of alignment sound its hard to describe. axle nut was also torqued to spec. I replaced my whole hub including the bearing with the junkyard hub and bearing from a low mileage 240. Are the hubs a one time use? I had to pry the one off the junkyard with a hammer and screwdriver.

you could have damaged the hub/bearing when you were pulling. They have hub pullers for stuff like that. Only other thing I can think of is the bearing could be bad as well.

you can rent one in autozone for free...i would recomend that you buy a new bearing & hub assemblythey shouldnt cost you that much more than at the junk yard and you dont have to pul it out your self, and be really care ful when you bang it back in use a socket to bang only the outer part not in the in the middle...It could also be your diff....

to check if the noise is coming from the diff or the bearing jack up the car and let the suspnsion hang to take load off the bearing and just spin th ewheels in 2nd, that will tell you exactly where the noise is coming from

well i used a hub puller to properly pull the hub out of the 240 at the junkyard. I put it in and torqued everything to spec and i still have the wobble noise. It only happens when i accelerate. When i left off or take the car out of gear and turn left and right i hear nothing. So it's not the bearing. I did remove the baffle plate from the hub and didn't put it back on. Would that cause it to make this noise? I'm stumped and don't understand why it's doing this.

doubt that'd cause the problem, something wobbling should be something more along the lines of a worn upper mount or an unbalanced wheel usually.
