Our 2006 Pathfinder LE was driving us crazy with the sounds of a cheap motel for the past few years. It was especially bothersome when temps got below 55 degrees. I tried lubing every hinge, the latch assembly, slamming the rear hatch closed (more for me than anything else), replaced the liftgate struts, replaced the window weatherstripping, as well as the hatch weatherstripping, too. I rode in the back attempting to locate the noise, and when that failed, the wife road back there. All in vain (although that last one did have its advantages). Then I got the bright idea to leave the hatch slightly ajar while driving to see if the noise would go away. It did! Thinking about what the difference was open vs. closed, I happened on the rubber bumpers. Nissan part number 90815. There are 4 of them. One in each lower corner of the hatch, another about two-thirds of the way up the door on each side. According to web search on Nissan dealer sites they go for about a dollar each. Just to make sure that they were the problem (they did feel a bit aged), I had the idea of placing a piece of velcro - hooks and fuzzy part (about 3/4" square) at the contact point of each bumper. I removed the sticky covering from the "fuzzy" bit, attached that side to the body - kept the tape covering on the "hooks" part facing the hatch) I then went for a drive - no more squeaks! It now sounds solid as new. So the choice is: Do I replace the bumpers, or just replace the velcro pads every couple of years . . . decisions, decisions . . .
