The easiest way to find a rattle would be to pound on the door or shake it while listening for a sound.
Here are five things to check. The first two contributed to a rattle on my 1999 and the third is actually a Service Bulletin from Infiniti. The last two are just random ideas that popped out of my head.
1) Rear window hinge. On the left hinge for my rear window, the hinge pin had started to work its way out. It was very easy to push back in using the tip of a small standard screwdriver. Make sure it is aligned properly so that the pin will go all the way across the hinge. when fully inserted, the pin should be recessed about 1/4 inch.
2) Rear window strikers. The rear window strikers are basically rubber pads in the lower corners for the window to rest on. I cut a small piece (1/4" x 1/2") of mouse pad and slipped it into the hollow part of the striker. This silenced the rattle on mine. I wouldn't build it up too much or you might not be able to seal around the rear window properly.
3) Rear hatch striker. According to Infiniti, the "dovetail rubber" striker on the rear hatch can harden and cause a rattle. The striker is a rubber block mounted on the body in the rear hatch opening. It is located about 3" higher than the turn signals. The Service Bulletin says that you need to remove and discard the block and then put the screw back in its place.
4) License plate. Is your plate loose?
5) Rear hatch latch. Close the door and from inside the vehicle, shake the door using the latch on the inside of the door.
