Hi,Hopefully someone can help. Last night I closed my rear hatch and the strap to my backpack got shut in the latch. Now the rear hatch will not open.

It is an '07 S. I have tried the manual release on the inside and it still will not open. From the looks of it, the strap looks to be caught up in there pretty good. Any ideas on how I can get this unjammed?

Did you ever figure this out? I have a stroller strap stuck in the rear hatch latch of my 09. The reah hatch will not open and from what I can tell the latch is not releasing. It has the electronic latch release but not the automatic door. The strap is in exactly the wrong spot, dead center in the latching mechanism.

Yes, I got it. Sounds like a familiar situation, right in the dead center. I took it down to the Nissan dealership and they helped out. On guy on the inside manually releasing the latch by the manual switch while three big dudes on the outside lifting it up, with one of them using the outside release. The guy on the inside was popping his shoulder into it and it eventually opened. Either take it down to the dealership or get a few of your friends. Good luck!

Thanks for the help! Your advice helped me fix it on my own.

I had already popped off the small panel on the inside of the hatch to get to the locking mechanism and it looked like the latch was traveling the full range. Knowing that a little more force might be the trick, I used a 1.5 ft x 3 ft piece of ½” plywood as a lever. I could get the hatch to lift just enough to get the plywood in, then while hitting the release pushed down on the plywood so the bumper acted as the pivot point and the plywood pushed up on the hatch. The 3 ft. edge of the plywood was under the hatch to avoid putting too much force on a small area and bending the hatch. It popped open after just a couple of tries.
