Hello,
Discovered this forum yesterday & just registered: Wonderful source of info.
Purchased a 2010 LE a week ago, replacing a 2004, and so far everything GREAT; however, sure would like to get rid of the beeping sound when rear hatch is raised/lowered...reminds me of a garbage truck backing up.
Is there a way to do it correctly? If not, would be willing to just muffle by filling "speaker" with a glue gun (or?), but cannot locate.
Sure would appreciate help!

Congrats on the new Murano! I am the moderator here in the fabulous Murano Forum and we are thrilled to have you as a new member!

You may have an option on your front screen under "Sounds or Beeps"????? Otherwise I think you may be stuck with that one.

Thanks (twice) Timmbo; thought we had struggled all the way through the menu, but will take another look when my Wife gets home from work. The '04 didn't have anywhere near the screen options, but seemed a fair amount more intuitive & had a fraction of the clicks necessary to get where you wanted to go...guess I'm going to have to go to work on a geezer's cheat sheet!

Sorry...I think you're stuck with this as Nissan most likely considers it a "safety feature".

The beeping is annoying in my 2009 LE as well...almost embarassing when you are in a parking lot and standing there while it slowly lifts and beeps at you...however for the hands free convenience, it's worth it.

Thanks Musky; agree that it's a nice convenience (ahhh; the increasingly long list of life's necessities), but I'm betting myself the hatch is programmed for failure within one month of warranty expiration.
Tried again yesterday afternoon to find source of beep; wonder if some little Nissan Engineer got a bonus for hiding it?

now, i know what i'm about to suggest falls under the "cut your toe off cause you have a headache" buuuttt... aren't you able to disable the auto liftgate (thus eliminating the beep) with the button on the lower left dash area??

i also have an LE and could do w/o the beeps, been lifting my own tailgate for years now its not all that necessary

Are you kidding jaydow? We had kids in from Utah this weekend & the first thing my Wife bragged-on was the electric hatch! Mess with it & it's the couch for at least a week!
I will check the dash button tonight (appreciate the tip), but sure had the impression there's no "Plan B" if the mechanicals fail (which will almost certainly be on the second day of vacation or first flat tire).
Anyway, after all finished with the obligatory "yeah that's really cool Mom" responses, we proceeded to position ears at the four corners of the hatch & still couldn't find the beep source; have a feeling that if I ever do, there's going to be a "congratulations" note next to it...along with a warning that disconnecting will void the entire warranty.

Hello - we just got an LE and have the same problem with the lift gate. My wife hates to use it at night in the parking lot because it draws too much attention to her... anyway I took it to the dealer today to see if they could do something - pull a fuse, clip a wire, etc. They told me they could not disable it. They did tell me it was located inside the lift gate door and to push the three hole pins in to remove it. I feel they just didn't want to bother with it. If I can get to the speaker I am going to (1) try to disable it or (2) mute it with something. The service tech did tell me that if I pull the wires on the speaker the lift gate may not work. But it is worth a try if I can get to it without messing the cover up... any other information from someone would be great! I can't believe that people like this... thanls

2010, not sure on the 2009.
The "beep" source is located between the rear bumper and the frame on the passenger side. It's inside a small metal housing. There is a wire coming out of the bottom with a connector plugged in to the beeper. Squeeze the connector on the sides to depress snap lock and pull off. You'll need to position your self just right to get at it.... tight spot. Presto...no more beep. And you can reconnect if you want.

pretty sure i found what breezy is talkin about, but mine is an electrical taped bundle of wires feeding into a rubber circular "cap". there's no "metal housing" and no single wire, more like 6-10 wires. i'm an bit leery of yankin on the cap or wires. what's more breezy was right when he said its in a "tight spot" lol

Beep Friggin Beep is history; right where breezy said it was (didn't notice anything similar to your sighting jaydow), but too tight to get my paw on it so I decapitated the lead-in wire; better than the world's worst itch going away.
Thanks again breezy!!!!!!!!!!!

ok that "rubber circular cap" was a gasket that the wires fed through further past the fame. and there was no way to get past that, so looks like i'm stuck w/ the beep beep. unless i cut a wire, but i'm scared to do that

Again, I have not seen a 2009. There is a bundle of about 6 wires going from inside where the spare tire is located, thru a grommet to the other side (outside but inside the plastic bumper). Here you'll find a junction of the wires and the two wires (they are in black insulation) split off to the beeper. Jaydow...you may be looking at this junction or bundle that is wrapped in something like electrical tape. The beeper is located further up and towards the passenger side direction. It should only require two wires. If i ever get a chance to look at a 09 I will check it out.

A couple more things. You can barely see this housing so you need to put your hand up there and feel the box and connector. Postion your self just right so you can pinch the connector. There is one side that has a knurled tab...this is what needs to be depressed in order to remove the plug. With your feet pointing out from the rear of the car...use your right hand, thumb and forefinger the knurled tab should be under your thumb. Pinch hard and pull when you feel the tab "flex" a little.

Anyway good luck
I wanted to pass this along as I was NOT going to listen to that thing every time I opened the tailgate.

now to get at it to pull the clip!

but my thanks, the above description helped me properly locate it

Big PROPS to breezy (and jaydow101 for the video).

I was resigned to the fact that I would have to live with this beeping for as long as I owned my Murano. After reading through this thread and watching the video, I went out to the garage and less than 10 minutes later had a BEEP-FREE auto liftgate :-)

I was actually surprised at how quickly the harness was to locate and it was easier to access than I thought. The problem though, was getting position to actually get enough leverage to squeeze the clip and get it off. I could not do it no matter how many positions I tried and my fingers were hurting from pinching so hard.

Enter a pair of needlenose pliers...a little strategic manuvering...and presto...clip pops off. I wrapped the end in some electrical tape just to keep it clean in case I ever want to reconnect it down the road.

Thanks again!

Glad to help!
Now, if someone could tell me how to eliminate the Nav warning notice that is required to be ackowledged every frikin time the system is used...I'd be good. I was told by the dealer that it's in the soltware and they can't do anything ...which tells me something can be done.

breezy,

My other car is a 2006 Acura TL w/ Navigation and the Nav warning upon start-up on that is 10x more annoying than the Nissan's. That being said, I've gone and found that there are definite fixes for the Acura system...however that system is actually loaded by a DVD and entails loading "hack" files on a burnt DVD and manipulating the screens and system in that manner. I have attached a link to the Acura website thread where you can find all this information and more...however I don't really know if any of it would be applicable or even transferable knowledge since the Murano has the hard drive interface. I'm no computer geek, and I'm sure some of these guys spent a lot of time "hacking" to get this right, but it works and if I get brave enough...I'm planning on doing it to my Acura someday.

Would love if someone created a similar fix to the Nissan system and dumbed it down for us everyday folks. Would probably take someone very technically inclined and computer savvy. I haven't looked, but I believe other Nissans have the same Nav system, so maybe there could be more info from the Maxima/Altima/GT-R crowds...or even the Infiniti guys.

In my experience, this is pretty typical. My previous car was an '05 Chrysler 300C, and its nav system behaved the same way. The solution was to use a burnt DVD with a hacked firmware, which was too risky for me. (If things don't go well you'd risk bricking the unit, and it wasn't so inconvenient that it was worth the risk to me.)

I did use a burned DVD to update the maps in that car—itself a risky thing to do, since the official DVD wasn't available any more, and the updated maps also updated the firmware, which prevented the old map DVD from working. But it didn't have the turn-by-turn for the areas in which I regularly drove, so that seemed worth the risk.

It looks like a visit to the dealer is required to update the maps on the '09s (and probably '10s) per Navteq's website. (This is for the '08 & '09 Armada, '09 GT-R, '09 Maxima, '09 Murano, '08 & '09 Pathfinder, and '09 Z Coupe—again, per that website.) So it's $99 to Navteq for the IP rights to the maps, and then another service fee to your local dealer. What a scam.

Sorry about hijacking the thread, but hopefully someone finds this useful.
