My rear glass only opens with the key and I was wondering, has anyone converted theirs to a electric release?

The rear glass opener is actually an electric actuator. I meant to hook my alarm/remote starter to the rear glass opener so I could pop the glass with my remote but I didn't.

You're right on the 2003 but I have a 2002 and that year only has a lever coming off the key cylinder that releases the glass. I was hoping that actuator on yours would fit directly to mine. Has anyone tried to switch them out yet?

That's interesting, so there's no way to open the rear glass from inside the vehicle?

Nope and I also find it weird that as you turn the key to open it, it locks all the door locks prior to opening the glass.

It is a pain in the a** I would love to have that release button. To pop the rear glass I have to turn the car off so I can use the key. I have been searching online for a cheap assembly from the QX4 but no luck

hmm, yeah the one from the qx4 would probably be your best bet but anything from a qx4 is hard to find and even if you do find one at a junkyard they're gonna want to sell you the whole door. As for the newer actuator, I would say go for it if you can find one for a reasonable price. Worst case- you have to do a little welding but I feel like that wouldnt be necessary. The wiring on the other hand is going to be a pain in the balls... There isn't an easy way to run wire through the hatch and there's lots of sharp metal that can cut into the wires and short them out (been there).

yours really dont have a button?

my 99 has a button on the door even my buddies 1995 nissan pathfinder has the electronic switch for the rear glass - the switch is next to the e-brake. why would they take that feature out for the 2002 year??

That's very odd. Mine is right next to the gas fill cover release. I'm not sure what it's like on the Pathy but my '01 Q has some grommets at the top of the tailgate where it meet the roof of the vehicle. I ran my back-up camera wire through there. It would be a good spot for this kind of thing if you've got it.

It definitely doesn't have an electric release and it's even a LE model.

Empty V - That's exactly where I was planning on running the wires.

I'm going to pull the plastic off tonight to see if there is room to add a universal door actuator to it.

It looks like only the 2003 and 2004 Pathfinders had the electric actuator for the rear glass. The actuator from CourtesyParts runs $142.82.

I have an 02 QX4 and I dont think I have that. I usually open it with the key on the rear door...

Where would it be located if I did have that?

Really? I have 02 QX4 and I have that right under the drive left armrest on the door. This item is even printed in the new car window sticker "Remote Hood, Glass Hatch, & Fuel Filler Door Releases". It is in the standard section. I still keep the window sticker with me.

For some of you guys that have this magic button, could you post a pic of where it is?I don't have one either, and it's a pain for sure.(Makes me wonder if I can retrofit the door with OEM parts.)Thanks.

Oddly enough when I was searching for some pics I came across this picture of the drivers door for a 2003 LE and it doesn't have the gas door opener or the glass opener. Perhaps it was an option.

My gas door release is a mechanical lever on the floor next to the drivers seat, left side. No buttons for me. Darn.

By the way, my rear glass supporters are very weak now; they can't push the glass up at all.Do I have to buy from Nissan only, as there is this unique bracket attached to the supporter?

Mine are totally shot too. I've opened the rear glass maybe 5 times since I've owned the Q, so I figured there's no point in replacing the pistons. If you wanted to replace them I'm sure you could just drill them out and pop-rivet in new ones of the same length, I'll check them out today to confirm.

Thanks Billy for the good suggestion.Yes, I only used the glass hatch like 20 times in more than seven years. I just want to fix it in an inexpensive way.

Has anyone else had an issue with being able to get the latch to catch? Is the latch adjustable?
