What is so difficult about replacing the ring and pinion, I mean, you guys will swap about anything but no one wants to mess with that. Yes it takes time, but so do rods and mains. I want to buy the 4.36 or the 4.63 but you guys say that's only half the battle, and half the bill. Is it really that bad??

not hard to do. the problem with rear ends is in the setup. it requires some special tools and can be kind of aggravating. i have done this type of work a few times and i enjoy it. i dont intend to switch final drives on my s13 because i have enough power to utilize every last bit of my stock gear. i cant go any lower for the sake of drivability on the street. its ok for race cars though.

I need 500 more rpm or so in 3rd gear. What is best, cheapest option? No 240s in yards around here.

500 more rpms in 3rd? a lower final drive will have you shifting at a slower vehicle speed but will not change your redline at all.

im not sure i understand what you are trying to do.

I dirt track oval race, a wide track. Up high on the outside with small tires, I'm in 3rd gear, max rpm is about 55-5700. With large dia.tires on the bottom, I'm at red line in 2nd. Can't go high with large dia., can't go low with small dia. tires. A 4.36 or 4.6 and I can beat the 944s. No money
