the only trouble my top ever gave me was when the weld for one of the rivets that holds a connecting piece between to of the boughs broke. The rivet fell out, and the connecting piece lodged itself so that the top wouldn't close. That was fixed by shoving a clevis pin in there.
The rear window when it gets some age on it can be fragile, but that's the nature of plastic. I've only ever broken one when I put the top down in the middle of december when I was installing some speakers in the back.
Other than that, the top is generally trouble free. The only real issues we have are the quarter windows. They have plastic clips on them that can break and cause the window to fall off track. If I could make them out of metal, I would.
