hey, I have been building my s13 purely for time attack and autox. Question is as standard i have a 4.08 open diff. I have gotten for free a VLSD J30 diff, cover swaped out all ready etc... it's the 3.9x ratio gear.

Now will i be faster with a open higher ratio 4.08or faster with a lsd and a slower lower ratio 3.9or is the gear ratio differnce to nominal to notice and make the lsd a clear winner?

I think it would depend on the particular track. A wide open course would favor the higher gear ratio, while a tight technical track would favor the lower gear ratio,

personally I would probably go w the LSD just for the extra grip.

But whats the worst that would happen, you swap to the j330, decide you don't like it and swap back. It's worth a try, imo. But I have never done a swap and have no idea how much work is involved, so take it for what it is worth.

Go with the LSD unit. The differance in gear ratio isnt worth all the extra wheel spin you get with the open unit, especially on tight autox courses.

QFT, I get wheel spin in fast sweepers, usally after a transion, in my miata. I am probably not breaking 100 ft/lbs to the wheels, and I'm on azenis.
