3158 miles on the vehicle, I was on my way to get my first oil change when a 91 bronco gets distracted by a F350 with swamp tires (humongous) that was pulling into the mall and rolled into me .

Worst part is? I'd have pulled out into traffic if that F350 wasn't there, as he was blocking my entire view of the road. Kid let his foot off the break a little as he was distracted by the truck, and ran into me going about 2 mph or so.

Well, since I was on my way to get my oil changed, (was late due to the hour or so we spent waiting for the cop) I got an estimate. $727.00, for the new bumper and tail light. Could have been much worse, I'm just angry, very angry, as I've only had it for 4 months and it's my first new car

Last car got a new paint job, and 3 months later I got rear ended by a tail gater at a red light. *Sigh*

I just can't have nice things I guess x_x. Partially a rant because vehicles as large as that F350 with 24"+ tires shouldn't be street legal x_x.

Also, I don't have the time with finals coming up to have any work done till may... and there's also a 2 week back order we've all heard so much about. *sigh*

Any damage to the hatch?

I don't how it works in Florida, but here in BC, what needs to be repaired/replaced is heavily dependent upon what the repair shop says. Since this is a new vehicle, try to make sure the bumper is replaced and not repaired. The foam should also be replaced as well as the bumper brackets if necessary.

Welcome to the Smashed Versa Club. The only positive thing? there are no aftermarket body parts available for this thing yet (according to the reputable body shop I took mine to).

Took it back to the dealer I bought it from, says replacement for bumper and rear tail, so it'll be replaced. there's no structural damage, hatch opens and closes fine and the quarter panel is undamaged... I'd shudder to think how much it'd cost to fix it if those were damaged.

I figure getting it fixed at the dealer who sold it to me, would be best, at least it's pretty close to back to new that way.

I could tell you how much that would have cost. $7878. That's how much my repair total was when an F150 mistook his gas pedal for the brake and slammed into me at 30 MPH. That was including a new hatch, bumper, brackets, extenders, interior body paneling, and having to have the quarter panel repaired.

I guess I got lucky with my accident. No structural damage, and no paint damage outside of the bumper.

If the bumper comes painted, install it yourself & pocket the installation fee.

Don't blame the F350 for the moron who ran ito you. That moron is the type of person that should be banned from driving. Unless the F350 had naked girls in the back, why would it be distracting?

And Clipsed, how is being stopped at a stop sign, not driving defensively? Should have said **** it and blasted through the intersection? How is EV's crash caused by him not being defensive? Should he have stopped the driver behind him & gave him an education on the difference between the brake & gas pedal or speed along at 200 mph so nothing could catch him? These crashes are 100% the rear enders fault.

My grandmother is a TERRIBLE driver, always has been (drives too slow, swerves, doesn't keep a regular speed, etc) BUT, she has not been involved in a single accident or recieved any tickets in her entire life. Clipsed, just because we get into one accident does not mean we don't drive defensively. I have avoided thousands of accidents due to the negligence of others (Massholes; they're a huge problem up in NH, they drive like morons and show complete disregard for the laws and other drivers). Everyone will screw up once, unless you're my grandmother...

MASSACHUSETTS DRIVERS!!!!!!!

(Massholes; they're a huge problem up in NH, they drive like morons and show complete disregard for the laws and other drivers) - Bishop i couldn't agree with you more. They always bring their disregard to NH and drive like they are still in MA. When they have been in the wrong they will act as if they are the **** on the road and you need to learn how to drive. Id rather drive behind your gram and get road rage from the slowness than have to deal with reckless jack@$$'s.

Everyone does screw up sometime in their life, i totaled my 1st car 98 toyota corolla when i was 16 had the car 2 weeks and that was a lesson learned being 23 now haven't been in an accident since. I just attract everyone else's cars to hit me.

I've been in 3 accidents in the 13 years I've been on the road. All in the last 6 years.

Accidents #1 and #3 occurred despite defensive driving. Actually, accident #1 was completely unavoidable. but BECAUSE of defensive driving, I was able to mitigate damage and also avoid a nearly certain severe injury from what would have been a head-on collision.

Accident #2 was weather (ice) related. And somewhat my fault too, but it was a low-speed curb hopping that just damaged some suspension parts.

You can't always avoid an accident, no matter how careful you are. You can't force good driving habits on your fellow drivers. But being an attentive, defensive driver will help you avoid situations and reduce damage or injury in other cases.

Bishop - For what it's worth, we took my grandmother's keys away from her in 1984. She was too dangerous. She fought like hell to keep her keys, but once we had them and we showed her that grandpa could get her around just fine, she actually thanked us.

I got hit at a stop sign... hardly the spot to really be defensive. guy was moving so slow when he hit me I wasn't aware he was even moving (actually, he wasn't aware of it either.)

We took my grandmothers' car away from her after her first stroke. My grandfather is in FAR better shape than she is, so transportation wasn't an issue. The sad thing? she'll be 63 next month. Kids, this is what an unhealthy, inactive lifestyle will do. She smoked heavily, drank diet soda, and ate nothing but fried foods. Now she's in a nursing home. Take care of yourselves!

I got rear-ended in my Versa at a yield sign because of a DHL driver making an illegal right hand turn into my lane. Those stupid big yellow vans. The lady behind me wasn't paying attention and rammed into me. Such is my life at times....

Don't get me going on delivery drivers. They think they rule the world even more so than your typical BMW/Benz driver.

I love how *I* got a parking ticket for momentarily parking in a truck only zone to run a part into a client's and the FedEx guy that was illegally parked in not one but two passenger load/unload only spots (which he is NOT legally allowed to park in) just gets a wave from the frigging meter maid. (Although I learned a lesson from this... paying $6 for parking and walking 3 blocks is MUCH cheaper than a $51 parking ticket... especially when parking is reimbursed by my company, and tickets are not)

Our biggest problem here are tow truck drivers. They weave in and out of traffic, speed all over the place, run red lights and stop signs. I mean it's not like there's not a huge market for cars that need to be towed in this city, but you would think so by the way these truck drives. It seems the only time they really get in trouble is when they've gotten into an accident.
