my suspension setup is KYB AGX's with eibach pro kit springs, and ST sway bars front and rear. the shocks has about 40K miles on them, and recently ( today ) i've felt the rear end being very unstable when i hit a bump. its unstable as in side by side wiggle. there seems to be no sign of wear and tear or the shocks being slowly worn out.

when i try to compress the shocks in the rear, it seems to make a slight squeeking sound. the shocks are set at 5 in the rear and the car has 120K miles on it. do you think its blown shocks or bushing?

on the sidenote, it was kinda windy tonight ( winds up to 30mph ) and at first i figured it might be cross winds thats blowing my car around but when i called my friend who was driving along with me said that he even didn't feel the wind at all. also when i got out of the car after i parked, the wind seems to have stopped.

am i going nuts? or is there something mechanically wrong with my car? or is it the wind?

Mechanically, there isn't much in the rear that should allow for side to side movement. Tires would be the biggest factor, but if you are running low profile tires on your 17" (or 18"?) wheels, then that shouldnt be much of a factor. I would blame it on the wind, 30mph crosswinds toss our cars around alot, or maybe a bad alignment if you havn't had that done in a while. If your rear shocks were blown, your car would bounce up and down, not side to side.

Living in the Windy City (aka Chicago), I get this a lot. Cross winds can really reak havoc on cars. Ever so often, it'll blow a semi over.

I had a side-wiggle... replaced my struts... no more wiggle. Good luck.

Ah! Your car is doing the truffle shuffle like my car is! Same symptoms, I hit a bump/imperfection and the car wiggles/tracks for a few seconds. Very unnerving. Have an alignment shop check your rear toe settings, if it's out of whack it can cause a lot of issues. If the AGX's were blown, you'd have massive wheel-hop around turns, and they'd be leaking black oily goo. I'd put it on a alignment rack first, w/ someone who knows what they're doing.

Good to hear you found out what it 'schwas.' I got my car back today after my bf aligned my car at Nissan, he said my rear toe was so out of whack that it wasn't even registering on the computer. They didn't have enough time so i have to bring it back on thursday. I've never head anything bad about the longetivity of the rear AGX's. What settings were you running your car on? Mine have been 2/4 since installed (half firmness), and with the type of springs your'e running they certainly should'nt have blown from excessive lowering. I'm surprised.

When you get your koni's in, do a review! I'm wondering if there will be any difference felt.

i was running 2 in the front and 5 in the rear. i've had them for 40K miles or almost 2 years. and i live in nyc ( craterville ) so i guess they faired pretty well, but i've heard that the agx's were under dampend so thats why i decided to go koni's in the rear. but the problem is that after some more research, the koni's seems like a ***** to adjust. it makes me want to tell the company to exchange it for another set of agx's.

True, I forgot what the warranty was on the AGX's. Isn't it a year? I went thru one rear AGX because the piston was scratched in transit, so it blew in like 2 weeks, and the place i ordered it from (coximport.com) replaced it for free (i just had to pay to ship it). I was running Sportlines back then (bad idea, didn't research) and in exactly one year my front AGX's blew. So i did some more research, found better springs (Susp. Technique) and bought new fronts. That was in ... 2003, no problems since then. And the rear's are still orginally from 2002. This is also my daily driver. The roads suck here, but not like New Yorks roads, since our winters aren't as harsh plus i can find 'alternative' routes that are freshly paved vs. other routes. That and I dodge potholes like oil slicks.

So anyway. Don't the Koni's have the adjustment situated that you have to take off the wheel to reach it? That was the dealbreaker for me, since i autocross i like how i can just slide under the car and do a quick change. Koni's are top-knotch for quality though.

edit: just saw your other thread (you should've posted in this one! *Gasp* j/k) that's super gay that you have to take it out. Ugh. What were they thinking. You can tell they weren't keeping RWD cars in mind with that.
