x2

Ebay got some good looking set ups for headrests that include their own separate DVD players and are pretty cheap... I had asked people on the forum if anybody had used them to check the reliability, but no one said yay or nay, I will get me a set soon and if you havent bought anything by then I'll let u know how it went.

I know, and I am putting plenty of mods on my car. But the interior is the only thing I want to look stock. That is why I was hoping to find the OEM screen and controls

Oh, cool... in that case is like $1,700 at www.infinitpartsusa.com but shop it around ebay, you may get lucky. I believe those things only came in M's with the Premium package and it's a drop down screen from the roof... not in the headrests, gl.

Hey a.blanco0905
I've been thinking about installing headrest dvd players as well and saw your original post...it doesn't seem too difficult and I would also be interested to see what the quality of those players is like. I have bought many a thing off Fleabay, but I sometimes worry when it comes to electronics if the seller doesn't have a decent return policy or it is coming from overseas. I saw one of the merchants also has their own website and is a US dealer with a warranty and decent return policy + one of their 9 inch player kits comes with a 12V plug adaptor in case you don't want to tap into your fuse box or cut into wiring. You could just plug into the rear middle console outlet and put everything back to stock in case you want to.

The company (www.onfair.com) will even send you a sample to see if their "leather?" tan/black/gray is a good enough match. I'm thinking I am gonna try to get a sample. I have the graphite/black interior. I may try it on the wifey's car first to see it I like it and then do mine (she's got a 2003 Acura MDX). gl with the install...Craig

If you give your dealership a ring they will probably be able to give you a price quote. I'm sure it won't be a cheap quote, not to mention installation charges if you choose to have them install the items.

Remember that the rear package with the roof DVD player requires the rear armrest to have the controls and wood paneling. It also requires that the seats have cooling and heating function. Now that I think of that, this is probably a much more substantial upgrade than just plugging in a screen monitor. It will probably require you to change out the roof headliner (probably in the area of $500), the rear armrest (around $1200), and the rear seat assembly ($$$$). The aftermarket route would probably be the cheapest and easiest method. :yesnod

Good looking out man, I need to get this DVD's installed in my car soon before my kids die of boredom in the back of the car, lol. If you beat me to the punch let me know how good the DVD players work, thanks.

I have the factory rear dvd player and dont have the rear reclining/heated/cooled seats or the arm rest with controls, etc. I think that comes with X version premium packages not with Sport versions.

Sport version does indeed remove the rear seat features. I was told it has something to do with the different suspension and stuff they have under the car that makes some of those back seat features not able to fit. But that could just be BS

Hey Freddie, that's a pretty cool dvd player and it seems uber simple to install, but there's no wireless headphones included or even supported with this DVD player and I needs dat man... plus it's only one and I have 2 kids with 4 year age difference = headache.

I just used that item # so that you would have an idea.

I have seen them in the past with two head sets and remote but at a higher price.

I really don't like how big the aftermarket headrest are, they just look to fat. I have seen them in person and thet are really big. the only way around this is to install tv's in the oem headrest.

the only way I would get the roof tv if I find someone to do my headliner in suede which I'm shopping for now but around me it's very expensive.

so if I don't find a good deal on doing the suede liner my last option will be the armrest tv.

There's good Dominican upholstery shops in Washington Heights and in Paterson, they usually dont do cars because they especialize in couches and things along those lines but if you bring them the fabric they might be able to do it for you for a good price. I dont recall any in particular off the top of my head. Also if you find a motorcycle shop where they do custom work, they usually do upholstery on motorcycle seat... you could ask them, it's worth a shot.

I hear the hardest part is taking off and putting back the headliner and the sunroof card.

I need to take the car to a place that does this kind of work all the time.

I knew a place in Newark, NJ that charged $500 but the guy moved and I can't find his new info. I might have to look in the Bronx.

I can get the fabric with no problems, UV suede or even the Alcantara.

everyone I call are throwing me crazy prices (over $1k).

that price was for headliner, all pillars and rug.

Yeah I know, I've been in touch with drift too... and I'm guessing you want to do the headliner before you do the dvd in order for it blend in.

:bigthumb: Right! I found it on http://www.infinitpartsusa.com for like $1,700... that's too much money for a DVD player, I dont care how OEM is going too look... even if it was Blu-ray I'd still say it's too expensive.

Hello Everyone,
Not sure if I should start a new thread but will give this a shot.

I have a 2006 M45 With the Sport and Tech Package with the DVD upgrade.
But my car doesn't have the rear flip down DVD unit, mine plays the movies from the Front Navi Screen only when the car is Parked and E-Brake is applied. I know I can do a By-Pass and watch DVD movies but I know its a hefty fine if I get stopped.

I want to to upgrade my car with the Rear DVD Flip down package. But would like to know if its just a plug n play thing or do I have to replace the ECU or replace the computer or replace anything else. My Car has the DVD Player in my center console, but did notice that on other Ms that have the rear DVD Flip down that when you go to settings they have a Rear Panel On or Off option, mine doesnt have that not even grayed out. I don't want to do head rest or aftermarket, I wan't it as OEM as possible.

So question, is the Rear DVD Flip down just a plug n play to add if my vehicle already has the OEM DVD unit for the front screen?

@Hahakenny
Thanks for the reply but I wasn't asking about a DVD bypass for the front screen and yes searching does help, which I've been doing for a good while. But for anyone that doesn't want to mess with splitting or cutting wires for a DVD Bypass they can also just do a plug and play they can do this.
2006 - 2007 M35 or M45 http://www.beatsonicusa.com/beatsonic-tvk-35.html
2008 - 2010 M35 or M45 http://www.beatsonicusa.com/beatsonic-tvk-43.html
2011 - Present M35, M37 & M56 http://www.beatsonicusa.com/beatsonic-tvk-56.html

What I was really asking is for Current M owners that have the DVD player only on the Front screen, what is needed to upgrade and add the OEM Rear Flip down screen? I priced out the Flip Down, with remote, 2 headphones for $170 used, but after finally finding the Electrical Diagrams and comparing it to the standard DVD Tech Package I would still be missing a $230 Wiring Harness plus a Audio Distributor Module that goes behind the Navi Buttons. This Audio Distributor module is what tells the car to bypass the E-brake and send the signal to the Rear Unit but Kills the Video from the Front Screen.

Here is the Electrical Diagram for all 2006 - 2010 Ms
