As of two days ago, i think my rear drums are intermittently locking up upon breaking. When i let the break go they stay locked up. At first i thought it was all the breaks but from two days of minimal driving i am starting to think it is just the rear. If i slowly tap on the gas pedal they will let go and no sounds or resistance is noted when driving. It is only when the car is just about to stop do they kick in early. If i have the car in gear and let the break pedal off sometimes the idle will be enough to disengage them but other times i have to add some gas. I now also noting that when i press down the break pedal i hear a click sound near the shifter, but as far as shifting goes all gears work fine and there is no jerking between shifting. This may be a normal sound, I am now paranoid about the car breaking down so I am focusing in on everything! I know that i checked the front pads recently and they are fine as is the break fluid levels. I have been checking for leaks and none to be found ever! Any smart people out there have any ideas? I am in medical school so hopefully this might be something both easy to fix and cheep! Thanks to all that help!

i had the same problem although it was my front brakes, i thought i just needed new brake pads, so i got some, and when i got my tire off to change them i found out my caliper was shot, im not sure really if the rear brakes is you problem as they barely engage when applying pressure on the brake peddle, its very minuscule. you might want to go get it checked out because i didnt and i had to get new rotors and calipers, also make sure if its both because it was only my driver side and thought it was also my other side, which was fine, i got parts that i didnt need, although its nice to have both sides done and not haveing to worry about it later, i also got new cv joints mine didnt look to good.

my parts brake pads: $35 (napa)rotors: $32 each (napa)calipers: napa $85 + $50 core each or shop around, i got mine surprisingly at shucks, they're $56 + $50 core (shucks)cv joints: $67 + $50 core (napa)

shop time should be around 3-4 hours

i also love this part, iv got a great mechanic that charges $30 an hr. but most shops are up around the 70-90 dollars an hr range
