I have a 2002 Infiniti I35 and the rear door wont open from the inside or outside. Can someone give me advice on whether or not I should pay the deal $995 dollars to fix it?

First off, welcome aboard!

Secondly, does it not open because the lock mechanism is not releasing the locks or the latch mechanism is not working? Have you tried to lock and unlock the child-proof switch, just for grins? How did you get a quote of $995 for the repair from your dealer. The labor to R&R a door latch is 1 hour, I can't imagine the cost of the part being $800.

Don't you have to open the door to get to that switch? She says it won't open from inside or outside.

yes the child safety lock is located on the inside of the door where the latch is. try wackin it with your hand... (careful not to dent the car!)...to see if there is anything clunking around inside the door. maybe the latch is broken. if you dont hear anything, roll the window down and pull the door handle like you normally would to open the door but pull on the door itself. maybe its just wedged on somehow.

damn that sucks!!! First off, he's right about the whole 800 dollar for a part! so first advice would be to try everything yourself, Then.... Go to a small shop.... Somtimes these guys have more experience in these things, and they may even know what is wrong right off the top of their head instead of charging you an arm and a leg (and your first born).
