Rear Door Won't Open From Outside

I have a 2004 Nissan Sentra and the back passenger door does not open from the outside. This means it only opens from the inside.

Well...

I hit the Child Lock on that door, so the door won't open from either side!

How do you suggest I fix this so the door will open?

First turn off the child lock again and see how it goes.

At that point, it's probably something in the mechanism. You'll probably have to take the interior panels off to find the problem.

Forgot to mention: The child lock selector is on the door frame of the door in question and is inaccessible when the door is closed. Each door has its own child lock selector.

Since the door cannot be opened from the outside, and the child lock prevents the door from being opened from the inside, I can't get the door opened by conventional means.

Any ideas?

Oy, you're in a spot of trouble there, then.

It must be some kind of mechanical issue inside the door. Taking the interior panel off may be tough with the door closed, though.

I suppose it's possible that the electronic portion of the locking system isn't letting the door actually unlock. Try disconnecting the battery and opening the door.

After that, see what you can do about taking that panel off.

Sounds like a trip to the body shop whether you want to get the door working again, or you drive it off a cliff!

Maybe a dumb question, but are you sure the door is unlocked? Try this, get in the car, turn the car on, leaving the driver side door open. Then hit the door lock button. At this point all the doors should lock and then unlock immediately because the key is still in the ignition. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what else to tell you except to take the door off because you should be able to access the door hinges bolts when the front door is open.

Hey. I have an 02 Sentra. I also have a 3 year old. I had just flipped the button to turn the child lock on. And then my door wouldn't open from the outside. I checked and the door wasn't locked. Might sound stupid, but I hit the unlock button 10 times really fast ( I was fed up), and like magic, the door opened from the outside. maybe it could work for you 2.
