Looking at changing my differential oil seal myself. Has anyone does it? Is there any tutorial for someone mechanically inclined out there?

Thanks!

Or should I just go and buy a new differential? I have a canadian S14 so im guessing I have a VLSD

What seal are you talking about? The one between the back cover and the diff housing itself? If that is leaking then you drain your fluid, take off the back cover, scrape off the old gasket, put some orange rtv sealer on it, and put it back on. You might have to drop the diff to do it. Don't go buy a new vlsd, it's cheaper to fix yours.

Unless your talking about a different seal, it should only take a few hours.

^^

It's not that easy if it's the one between the cover and main pumpkin. You will have to undo the driveshaft, output shafts and drop the diff to do that. Check this out. I did this write up, so let me know if you need more Qs.

I think he means seals and not the gasket. And its not too hard. there are 3 total. 2 for the side seals, and one for the pinion seal. You need to pull it out and you need an impact gun and take off the pinion flange. You then have to pull the seal out of the front and replace. Just use a rubber mallet and tap it in.

Tap out the side seals with a hammer. Then you need to pull out the side seals. I would use a hooking puller for this, if not you may have to pull the puts out. Once out just clean the metal and tap the new seals in.

Why are you trying to replace it? I'm asking you because I didn't tighten down bolts well enough, so I had small leak. I tighten them again when the diff was on the car and it stopped. You might want to try that if that's the case.

I'll give that a go. But I'm noticing a leak from one of the side ones (not the main seal), and none of the seals have ever been replaced. it's a 95' 240, so i thought might as well replace all 3
