Hi .... I am new to the site and am hoping someone can tell me how to tell which rear I have in a 96 Pathfinder SE 4x4.... I am told by the dealer that they came with both a 4:36 and a 4:63 geared rear..... and no way to tell the difference but count the teeth ..... the rear is done and I can get another at the junkyard for $200.00 but need to know that I get the right rear....... any help greatly appreciated .......

Theres a metal plate in your engine bay on the firewall. Look for HG43 or HG46 I think you can guess which is which

found it .... mine says HG 46 ...... what's the HG stand for???? highway gear???? Why wouldn't the dealer tell me that???? thanks for the info....

The dealer probably didn't even know... they see too many different Nissans to know the little things....
When i was a detailer at the local Acura dealer, I knew more about those cars than the entire sales and parts departments combined. Half of them dont even care for the cars, they drive Fords and crap. Just tryin to make some wages.
i'm surprised they even told you about the gearing! It must have popped up in his computer or something.
