look at your door sticker or the id plate in the engine compartment on the pass side. check the axle code and look for a match.

I would assume that is about all the code tells you is axle ratio and if it is limited slip or not. Not much else can be different in a axle.

yes, if the axle code matches the gears are the same. it will not tell you if it has a LSD or not, you would have to look at the rear diff, either by the filler plug, which would have a sticker stating to add and LSD additive or look at the bolts holding the 3rd member to the axle for a tag stating the same thing.

as long as the axle code matches, not the number but the 1st 2 letters, i.e. HG, HF, CA if yours matches its the same axle. if the numbers are different i.e. 41, 43, 46 the gears are different. it is ideal to grab the same code so you won't have to change the front axle to match. look at the sticky that Desert Rat posted, this will tell you what axle you have, i.e. CA200, H190 or H233B.

H233B is the strongest, you should have a R200 front axle, but I would verify it first with the sticky ( its like the 5 post on this forum... all-you-needed-to-know-about-nissan-axl ... 33955.html ) if you have the R180 front axle I would grab that from the pathy as well.

ok,found me a diff.out of 97 pathy.axle code matches my 92 truck.my question is,the 92 has 37 teeth (s37:8) and the 97 has 48 teeth(m48:11).are they the same gear or not?

you have the HG46 where the pathy has HG43, 37 divided by 8 equals 4.625, 48 divided by 11 equals 4.63.......

gear ratios are different, if you install it, either your front diff or t/case will break.

You could take the front axle out of that Pathy too so you have matched gears.

I just reread the post, and apologize for not catching it before, R50 pathys had the 33 spline, 95 and lower pathys have the 31 spline axles. did you by chance read the link that I posted earlier.

there are alot of older pathys out there with HG43 axles, if you find one with HG46 grab that with the R200 front diff as well, you will be alot happier IMO. if you have means to weld it may be easier to find a pathy w/ HG46 and discs in the rear, cut off the perches for the 5 link and weld on leaf perches.

aside from that, working on a diff isn't all that difficult, some special tools are needed but can be done on your own.

to tell if you have a locking device, LSD or a locker, jack up the rear end and spin one tire, if the other spins the same way then you have a locking device, if it goes in the opposite direction you have an open rearend.

if you looking to replace your bearings, you will need a torque wrench ft. lbs. and in. lbs., press, shims and gear marker, IIRC. parts should be available online, your local Nissan dealer or most parts stores.

how are your u-joints? how many miles were on the axles you installed? so did you notice any pick up from the lower gear or I should say ease to come off the line? :woot:

I missed that the parts you found were from a '97 pathfinder.

You need parts from a '90-95. To the point made, the spline count will probably be different on the '97.
