I scored a j30 diff for $100 and had a guy put it in my stock housing for me. I specifically told him that I want my ring and pinion to stay in my housing and only swap the lsd thingy. So today I got it back and filled it up with fluid and turned it by hand to see if he swapped it or not. when I turn it in the direction to turn the wheels in reverse it was quiet. When I turn it the opposite direction to go forward it start making a noise. It sound like if I was to put it in and drive it, it will buzz. He also called and told me he had to purchase new bolts for it(he didn't specifically say what bolts) because it was stripped from being driven on and it was normal. I think sound like he got one of the ring and pinion gears mixed up, and what I'm hearing is the gears clashing. When I turn it, its about when each gear mesh is when the noise emits. If the gears were mixed can it be possible for it to mesh?
I know this is a long read, but let me know if I should just bolt it up or not?
thanks ladies and gents.
