The 3.69 gears will give you faster acceleration, but less top speed.

If you want a good explanation of how gearing works, check out http://www.howstuffworks.com

Actually it is the other way around msaskin, the 4.08 gears give faster acceleration with less top-end. However, the appropriate rear gear for these cars is the 4.08, if you put the 3.69 gear it is gonna kill the acceleration in it. Even the 300z's used the 4.08 gearing (save for the twin turbo's). I would highly discourage putting in a 3.69 ratio gear in your car unless you plan on only using it on the highway at high speed cruising.........

****...you're 100% right, and I'm just stupid :(

I have no idea why I got that mixed up. I personally was thinking about getting the nismo 3.8/3.9 or so gears eventually. Should be a good trade-off, and I really would like to drop down my cruising RPMs some.

lol, dont seat it I do it all the time lol. I personally think that having another gear in the trans would be better (6 speed instead of 5) because the gearing is great on acceleration and even a 3.9 would hurt that a little. Having the same rear gear and an extra overdrive gear to cruise in would be perfect. But I dont know of any 6-speed that will fit into our cars. It is a great idea tho.........

Yup. Then again having a bit longer gearing for me (SR20 :)) may be good, and it'll be even better once I upgrade the turbo.

You are right though, a 6 speed would be sweet. Maybe shorten the 2-3 and 3-4 transitions even :)

I'd love to see somebody make a T-56 fit into an s13 that would be pretty cool. I'm not sure how much hp it takes to turn one of them tho....

Well, it's torque, not hp. That said, an SR shouldn't lose too much power through a T56. The problem is fitment...a T56 is pretty damn big :)

I know a guy locally who is adapting a powerglide to his RB26 for drag racing duty.

the only skyline with a six speed is the R34 GTR. but that trans is AWD, and not appropriate unless you do the AWD conversion.

all other skylines are 5 speed.

Get the lsd from a s14 and swap it right in. Otherwise, do what I did and buy a Z30 lsd diff from a 300z car. Buuut, you've gotta get new output shafts. Hers a GREAT link on how to do it:

If you have questions on any part of the instal, email me.
