is there any way I can make it so the rear defogger stays on till I shut it off and what is infinti's reason behind this because I doubt that this uses a lot of power.

Couldn't you just turn it on again?

It's an electric heater - It does use quite a bit of power. It's fed by two separate 15 amp fuses (on the Y33), and is one of the few items that causes a noticeable dimming of the dashboard lights whenever you switch it on.

The reason it's on a timer is to avoid excessively heating the window after the fog or frost is gone.

If your car doesn't reach operating temp in 15 minutes, either it's time to relocate to a warmer locale or your Q has a serious issue. 15 minutes should be enough to clear the rear window. Especially if you give it a hand with a quick brushing/scraping.

ive had times when my rear windshield is caked with ICE.. 2 applications of the defog usually does it. Unfortunately I dont think theres any easy way to do it, its controlled by the BCM.

You could make a timer circuit that would simulate pushing the button every 15.5 minutes or so. Seems like a complete waste of time tho. It's not that difficult to push it again if the window isn't clear yet...is it?

Then why did you ask?

The antenna has a timer?

Suggest you read the Owner's Manual, the FSM, and some previous posts before posting your confusing statements.

The antenna timer is designed to prevent motor burn-out in the case of rod taking too long to extend/retract{think cold, freezing rain or ice collecting on mast as you drive, preventing full or sometimes partial retraction when turning off car after a drive,or snow/ice buildup upon startup preventing full or partial extention} The motor will run a set time, then power is interrupted to prevent damage

Ohhhh. I never realized the antenna had a timer. Mine always worked great. Never stuck. and now with my new head unit, the antenna doesn't rise unless the source is FM. I rarely listen to the radio (I abhor commercials) so the antenna doesn't have to go up. MP3 CD's may be the best invention as far as portable audio media goes.

Um, I'm 20. Why would I want to listen to AM? If the radio is on, the antenna goes up. If I'm playing a CD or my iPod, the antenna stays down.

If you're listening to an AM sport radio show, then you would be and your antenna would be up. I love these threads.

My old head unit was a Blaupunkt with no CD changer. When the car turned on, the antenna would rise. Turn it off, and the antenna retracted. If you turned the unit on or off, the antenna would respond accordingly.

My Sony unit raises my antenna when the source is set to "radio". If I set it to CD, the antenna will retract. I can't remember the model.

I didn't accomplish it per se, it came back from installation that way. I thought the installers broke it.

That's actually OEM like. Cassettes and CDs the antenna stays down.
