Well, I received the Red LED strip the other day and now have it installed. I have it wired to be a day time running light at half brightness and then a brake light at full strength. Here are some pictures. 1st one as just LED as running light. 2nd is with all lights on, and 3rd with brake lights.

Hi rjchoops, I've read your other threads when you were still in the planning stages and searching for wiring options:
rjchoops wrote:I want the leds to come on with the ignition so it becomes a rear red daytime running light strip. If I use the trunk light wire it's always hot even with the ignition off, so I would have to run a switch up to the dash so I might as well just run the running light wire up to the fuse box .
So how did you finally wire it up? Did you run wires all the way to the fuse box? Also, where did you get the LED light strip. I like it! Could you provide a link to the website?

Also, any chance you could post a LARGER photo (maybe 800x600) Thanks

Elton, I did end up running the hot wire up to the fuse panel on the drivers side under the dash. Then ran the brake side to the rear brake wire, the other led wire to ground and the other converter wire to the hot at the fuse box for the daytime run when the car is running.

Got the LEDs off ebay athttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...8435b

The dual element converter from http://www.chromeglow.com/

Hope this all helps.

That would be great except 60" is way to long....unless it could be continued up the sides. I will have to check it out.

You can get shorter one I think 49" or you can cut 60" by 3 diodes. If you cut one the other 2 won't light up.

Leo, you actually gave me another idea. I have another short red LED that I had plan to put on the side of the trunk hatch and if this works I may order some amber colored strips and connect them to the turn signals. If I used white for backup they probably want show off enough light to see with but only to be seen.

Hmm, don't think I could get away with anything like this in Ontario, Canada.

The law here is pretty explicit that ANY 'visible' lighting that's not OEM is illegal for road use and you can be fined. ie. LED washer nozzles, non-OEM mirror turn signals, etc.

Your mods do look nice though!

It sure does... thats the information I was looking for. Thanks!

Here's a direct link to the Dual Element Circuit (converter) on the chromeglow site for any one who's interested:

I have now added amber LEDs up the side of the trunk lid, in the space between body and liftgate. These are wired as daytime running lights as well as turn signals.

Man that is awesome. There are so many great ideas on this site that I would love to do but usually pass on just because someone else has done them. This though, with both the red and amber leds, I may just do if you don't mind a little imitation.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Would it be possible to get a larger picture to see more of the finer details?

It is about 60" from the bottom of one taillight to the bottom of the other taillight along the edge of the bottom of the lift gate. I think that may be the one I use for the red.

RJ, did you use the 48cm strip for the Ambers? I measured it to be about 20 inches from the top corner of the window to the edge of the taillight.
