I am posting this in the brake section also, but I always get much better response here, and I need info fast. I am changing the rear pads on my 93 vert, but can not get the caliper piston to collapse. I have the bleeder all the way out of the caliper, but piston won't budge in. If I flex the e-brake lever the piston moves out, so it is not froze. Is there something special I need to do with these calipers to collapse the piston for new pads?

I havn't done rear brakes on mine yet but...Sounds like you might be working against the e-brake, if it is self adjusting. Does the e-brake need to be disconnected before collapsing that cylinder? What does the FSM say?

I figured it out. The piston does not collapse with the bleeder valve opening. It actually screws in!!!! I don't understand the concept, but it worked.

do you have the tool for that or did you use a pair of pliers?

i have the tool, its a cube w/ tabs on each side for different types of calipers that you use w/ a ratchet and extension, makes the job 10x easier

guess someone told you about the pads for the front? If not you have to get front brake pads for ABS... Nissan apparently put ABS pads on the convertibles, but no ABS system. Just and FYI.. sorry i didn't get back to ya sooner about the rears..

Thanks for the heads up on the fronts, seems like I remember reading about that in the FAQ section too!

There's a lot of rear calipers that need to be turned in instead of just applying pressure. Even some older cars that have front disc brakes will need to be turned in. It's something you learn along the way - if it doesn't press in, try turning it. The thing to look for is some sort of odd casting inside the piston. If there is some sort of slot or ridge or pin-holes inside the piston, you probably need to turn it. If there's no castings inside the piston, you probably just need to press it in.

be careful thats it goes in evenly, you can rip the seal, then brake fluid would just come out.
