Brakes have been squealing on and off very loudly at times. Sounds like metal indicator. There is also a womp womp sound while driving . I thought it was the front tires but as it turns out i took it to the dealership and they tell me that it is the rear brakes and that both sides need to be replaced. My car only has 36,000 miles and I have treated it very well for one. I do not understand this. I am considering changing them myself. Can I get some advice? Also the dealership is quoting me over 300 to fix them that is quite ridiculous. Thanx, shaun marie.

They are easy to change. The service manual tells you how to do everything. I am at 19k and mine squeal from dust in them. If you have the mechanical skills to change them, you should have no problem doing it yourself.

yeah changing them should be no problem but that's what we say when working on a helicopter also. Oh it's just a bolt...no problem! ha ha an hour later a bolt has turned into drilling out a bolt and replacing an anchor nut or refiberglassing. Anyways I just don't really have the time but will have to make it. Thanx for the reply. Shaun marie.

if your getting noise from the rear drums you can service them by, sanding the shoes untill the glaze is gone sanding the drums in a cross hatch fasion lubing contact points and adjust them should do the trick. if you have no material left or very little on the shoes you have no choice but to replace them. and watch when you torque the wheels the rear drums get warped easily if you over tighten the wheels

if its a rear brake squeak< technically you should be able to qualify (3yr/36k) for the TSB on Versa's for the rear shoes to be replaced. Cubes also have the same problem and fall under the same TSB.
