do i have to retract a piston in the caliper? and do i need a special tool.

Assuming it's a 240: Yes. No. Just use the shaft of a long, skinny screwdriver. I believe it must be turned clockwise. Don't turn it with pliers or you may scar it. It should be pretty obvious when you see it.

u can also rent them fo free @ autozone/ advance auto parts/ etc.

or u can buy a rubik's cube to attach it to a 3/8" extension /ratchet tools.... turn in 90 degree turns so that the tabs of the pads are aligned w/ the piston.

is the example of what most part slingers will rent 2 u. i just pick the appropriate adaptor & hook it up to my rachet-extension tool & push/turn clockwise.

u got abs?adviseable to crack open bleeder screws while doing it to prevent pushing crap back to the system. then bleed brakes/put fresh fliud thru.
