Hey guys, Im curious what could cause this problem, I have my 2001.5 2wd qx4 hibernating in the garage as it is a winter only vehicle, but I noticed that the few times I need to move it around that the rear brakes will lock up and I actually need to give the truck a tiny ammount of throttle to get the car to budge, it wont happen if I move the car again within the same day, but any longer and for the first inch of movement the rear brake (possibly both sides could be only one) not sure

How would I go about diagnosing this, I do use my parking break everything I park, would it simply be dry in the sheating and its not releasing freely? Or possibly the drums brake shoes need to be adjusted looser with the star wheel? The drums and shoes dont have very many miles on them, but the car runs, drives and brakes noise and trouble free other than the first initial inch of braking the car free

Cheers for any help

Probably the cable. There is a lever mounted to the rear brake shoe that moves on a single pivot pin when you set the e brake. There is a spring inside the drum on the end of the e brake cable which pushes the lever back to the resting position when you release the e brake.

Assuming that spring is ok, I'd look at the cable for issues.

The star wheel is used to adjust the brakes - backing that off will give you a low brake pedal. The procedure would be to fix the e brake so it works, make sure your rear brakes are properly adjusted using the star wheel, then adjust the e brake using the nut on the e brake handle in the cabin.

If you put the rear of the vehicle on jack stands for a couple of days you should be able to get under it and watch the e brake cable while somebody works the e brake for you. You will also be able to grab a wheel and see if the brake has released by turning it.

Im not to familiar with how the cables even go to the rear drums in this rig, I did the rear brakes about a year ago I believe (stopped driving the truck because the motor overheated) so its very possible I could just have the star wheel not adjusted properly.

Not the end of the world, I will get around to checking it out I suppose, sounds like it may be hard to pinpoint
