for some reason the rear brake locks up after i pull down the handbrake IF i pulled the handbrake up halfway up or higher. Could it be just the cable or maybe my calipers are going bad?

help, please

it could be either i would check to see if you cable is ok first..then check the calipers..are you sayin it is staying locked up as you release the e brake or only when you let it go down

when i pull it halfway up or more and then i pull the e brake down the brake doesn't disengage and stays that way, so for now i pull it just 3 notches, just enough to not let the car roll

I would think it would be e-brake not caliper. If it was caliper it would happen under normal to hard braking also. E-brake is cable operated so would definatley check the cable, better if you have someone help. If you get 2 people have one watch the cable while the other SLOWLY pulls the handle. Once it reaches the top/or full engaged position slowly let the handle down see if it get hung up. Thats what i would do before pulling calipers, start easy.Good Luck

Check the rear ebrake cables where they attach to the calipers, should be the bare cables where they go into the rubber/plastic covering. While the ebrake is released and rear calipers are locked up, if the cables move and aren't tight then they aren't freezing up. If that is the case then you need to replace the rear calipers or rebuild them.

Well since the e-brake mechanism other then the cable is inside the caliper, I would rotate the piston back into the caliper. Maybe it got out of adjustment.

if its e-brake related like mine check the wire first if its getting stuck, if not then just look around your caliper and try pushing the piston back it like carkook said
